15.5" viola converted to a 5-string (Five string) Fiddle! It's technically just a tiny bit smaller than 15.5 inches, but just a few millimeters and really close to 15.5 inches.
The viola is vintage and stamped SJ Lakey in multiple places inside the viola. I've researched and unable to locate this maker. Likely a amateur violin maker.
If I had to guess, this was likely made anywhere between 1900 to 1970, I'm guessing closer to 1900-1940 based on the paper used for the stamps.
That aside, the viola sounds great and per the demo player "better than a friends viola 5 string that cost over $3,000".
