Gustav August Ficker was a successful Germany violin maker, born in the last quarter of the 20th century. Together with his cousin, Ernst Heinrich Roth (whom many will know his name to be prevalent in the violin making world), they set up a workshop and successful business in
Markneukirchen, 1902. For many years, they worked cohesively together, crafting meticulous instruments and training budding apprentices, until Ficker relocated his workshop in
Markneukirchen. His business was a dynasty when it came to exporting quality student instruments to various retailers, one of which was William Lewis & Son in Chicago Illinois, where this violin was inducted!
This violin, no. 176 and made in 1960, features a darker side golden-brown on the front, with a beautiful grain that can be seen from across a room. The ribs share this deep colour, with some tones of pure gold seeping through at the midpoints, shining through the lovely patina. The two piece back is cemented upon a very light golden colour, which can be seen beneath the similar dark golden brown complexion. This is shared in the scroll, carved effectively in the distinctive Italian style, with clear volutes where the varnish deepens. A powerhouse of a violin, which came from one of the largest violin houses in the USA!

Restoring and Refurbishing Violins and Fiddles for sale since 2019. John found his passion for violins and fiddles later in life. He now sources, refurbishes and restores old violins and fiddles to be reborn and replayed - hence the name: Revivo Violins. - Revivo - 'to become alive, again'.

John poured himself into learning and restoring violins during the pandemic. He became certified in violin repair through the Iris Carr restoration course. In addition, he's shared bench time with a local violin maker and restorer, as well as enjoyed coaching sessions from other violin makers and professionals.

He's restored hundreds of violins and gains just as much joy from watching a new player receive their new starter violin as he does handing over an advanced or master violin to a professional.

Question: Why do your violins come with Wittner tailpieces with built in 4 fine tuners?

Answer: I lost a sale once because a young violinist had never tuned a violin using pegs. Most violin 'purists' insist on having a tailpiece with only one fine tuner on the E string only - Yet most can't tell you why. Here's why: Weight. The lighter the tailpiece the more sound is able to be transferred to the violin. Technology has come a long way since the days of needing weight savings, such as Wittner composite tailpieces with fine tuners. You get the ease of 4 fine tuners (saving much wear from the wooden pegs) while realizing the weight savings our predecessors sought. Times have changed, technology has advanced, sadly, the violin world is slow to accept facts and change. Secondly, Tailpieces, like pegs, fingerboards, and end pins are wear items and meant to be changed out during the life of the violin. If the tailpiece is not what you like - it can be easily swapped out to your liking. Please don't let a trivial and small detail like a tailpiece keep you from buying a fine violin. That would be similar to not buying a car simply because you didn't like the tires. Thanks for listening, I hope you learned something and play on my friends!

Vintage European violin values are on the rise, as there’s a limited supply. The wood quality, craftsmanship, seasoned tone, and age are all desired traits and in limited number.

Why purchase new or rent when pre-owned sounds just as good! Did you know you can buy a quality pre-owned violin like this, and typically sell for the same price if kept in good condition? It’s like having a violin for free. You’re welcome to play prior to purchase. I’m happy to meet at a local music store in Burleson for a second opinion.
